Palm Jumeirah is an artificial island designed in the shape of a palm tree, featuring sixteen symmetrical fronds. It is home to luxurious villas, stunning hotels, a water park, and several kilometers of beautiful beaches.
Construction of Palm Jumeirah began in August 2001. Although the island could have been built with concrete and steel, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum chose to use natural materials to ensure it harmonized with the environment. The project required 94 million square meters of sand. Geographically, Palm Jumeirah benefits from warm, shallow waters shielded from storms by the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, a 3.5-meter-high protective breakwater, built with 5.5 million square meters of rock, surrounds the island.
